A lfonya Wright, 58, departed this life on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at The University of Maryland in Easton, MD. Alfonya, who most of us knew as Alfonso, had recently became a resident of Hurlock, MD, but prior to that he lived in Federalsburg, MD for several years.

Alfonya was born on January 5, 1961, in Cambridge, MD to Mose Nelson and the late Laura Mae Wright Rogers. He was educated in the Dorchester County Public School System and graduated from North Dorchester High School in May, 1978. Alfonya was baptized in the name of Jesus at Greater Mt. Zion Apostolic Church in Preston, MD where he attended worship services at times. Alfonya was a hard worker, and worked several years in the poultry industry, from his youth, up until his passing. In addition to working hard, Alfonya also knew how to play hard. He was full of life and truly enjoyed living. Just like his mother, Laura Mae, Alfonya enjoyed playing baseball. In his youth he was given the name, “Fly Guy,” and he truly was “Fly”. He loved looking sharp and dressing to the nines. And would gladly let you know that he was sharp. Often saying, “Look at me cuz, I look good don’t I, I’m sharp ain’t I?” He sure didn’t mind complimenting himself. He loved watching wrestling and football, the Redskins being his favorite team. He also enjoyed shooting pool, playing basketball, dancing, and playing his music.

Alfonya might have worked in poultry, but he had a lot of hobbies and equipment that would make you think he had other professions. So, let’s see. He had a bunch of turntables and DJ equipment, but we don’t remember him hosting many parties. In any given moment, he would break out into a dance, but we don’t think he was a professional dancer. He was always dressing up, but we can’t remember any modeling contracts. Alfonya just enjoyed life and danced to the beat of his own drum. He was loved by many and he loved many. He got along good with people and he is truly going to be missed.

Alfonya leaves to mourn his passing, his father, Mose Nelson; two brothers, Jerry Wright (Joyce) of Preston, MD and Alvin Wright of Vienna, MD; one niece, Tyshika Wright of Cambridge, MD; one great-niece, Jeliya Stubbs and great-nephew, Jerel Stubbs Jr, both of Cambridge, MD; one great-aunt, Ella Mae Holland of Hurlock, MD; one great-uncle, Ray Wright of Easton, MD; and a host of cousins, family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances.

Alfonya was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Mae Wright Rogers, grandmother, Edna Wright, grandfather, Leonard White; aunt, Bertha Louise Wright Clark; great-nephew, Jerry Wright Jr, great-niece, Shanitta Sampson and many other loved ones.

RIP FONZ!

It as was a punch in the gut to hear of the passing of "Fonz" is what I always called him. It was a little over a couple months ago that I attended the funeral of his mother, who would have known that he would not be that far behind. Family you are probably asking why him, why now but only "GOD" knows and he makes no mistakes.

You Are In My Prayers!

I did not know that Alfonya had passed away. I was a cousin of his and did not know it until now. May God continue to Bless each and everyone of my family.
