Yolanda Blake Obituary

YOLANDA LEE BLAKE, affectionately known as “Yo” was born on July 21, 1976 to Delores Blake and William Walker in Easton Memorial Hospital, Easton, MD. Yolanda departed this life on Monday, May 11, 2020 at home surrounded by loved ones. She was 43.

Yolanda began her education in Denton Elementary School before moving to Chestertown, MD and attending the Kent county Public Schools. She would later graduate from Kent County High School’s class of 1997. After graduating, Yolanda devoted and enjoyed her time working and attending the Adult Day Services Program at Kent Center Inc. and Caroline Center for 21 years until her health would no longer allow in 2018.

Yolanda had a love for people. Her often “sassy and witty” personality was loved and admired by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Whether she was telling you to “talk to the hand” or sometimes letting you know “I am grown”; Yolanda’s presence was a shining light wherever she went. Her love for music, dancing and singing was undeniable. Family gatherings or birthday celebrations were some of her best times she enjoyed being the “Life of the Party”. Yolanda enjoyed watching her movies; Crooklyn, Five Heartbeats, and Good Times (The Complete Series) were her favorites.

Yolanda loved her family and had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews. She often took her role of “Aunt Yo” very seriously; always ready to put the kids back in their place when they stepped out of line or find a nice little corner to put them in when they didn’t want to mind. But all who knew “Aunt Yo”; knew that her sometimes firm but harmless discipline was purely out of fun and love.

Her love and memory will be carried on by her loving mother and caregiver, Delores Blake and father, William Walker; three sisters; Sherry Lake, Kim Walker, and Shawn Rich; three brothers; William Blake, Darryl Rich and Mark Rich. Yolanda also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins. Special nephew and buddy; Donovan Hackett; special friends; Clara “Teeny” Dorsey and Corlis Robinson.

Yolanda was preceded in death by her brother, Troy Donovan Walker.
