William Richard "Rick" Conrad

It is with hearts full of sadness, that we announce the passing of William Richard (Rick) Conrad, an exceptional individual who lived a life of remarkable love, service and leadership.

On Thursday, February 20, 2025, Rick passed away peacefully at his home in St. Michaels, MD, surrounded by his loving family. Born to the late Dorothy Richardson Conrad and Bill Conrad in Portsmouth, VA, on June 24, 1947, Rick grew up to embody the values of kindness, compassion and generosity. As the eldest son, he selflessly put others first, inspiring his siblings, family, friends and teammates to do the same. Rick's life was a beautiful testament to the power of love and family. He met his soulmate, Elaine Conrad in 1968 and they shared a glorious marriage of 53 years. His courageous service in the United States Marine Corp for four years was a shining example of his bravery and dedication. In 1982, Rick embarked on an extraordinary journey of mentorship, inspiring countless individuals under his management and flourishing as a leader until his retirement as President of Verizon Wireless Northeast in 2007.

Rick cherished his memories of Jackson Springs, NC, where he spent quality time with his cousins, Pat, Robin, and Todd, as well as his extended family and friends. As an avid skier, Rick reveled in summers and winters in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. His love for the Outer Banks remained a constant source of joy throughout his life.
 

As a leader and mentor, Rick touched countless lives and his remarkable career was marked by his exceptional leadership and mentoring skills. Rick's love for his family, friends and community will be deeply missed. His legacy will continue to inspire and motivate us to live our lives with purpose, compassion and kindness.

Other than his wife, Elaine, his daughter, Kimberly Conrad Saari was the light of his life. He is also cherished in the hearts and memories of Kimberly’s husband, Benjamin Michael Saari of Rogersville, TN; sisters, Dorothy Louise Conrad of Fairfax, VA; Nancy L. Bruther, wife of Lawrence J. Bruther, MD (deceased) and mother of Kevin Bruther, (deceased) of Oakton, VA and brother, Edward Steven Conrad of Virginia Beach, VA; nieces and nephews; Shannon & Joe Wahler of Cornelius, NC, Cole & Katie Conrad of Matthews, NC, Whitney Conrad and Reid Conrad of Virginia Beach, VA, and precious great-nieces and nephew; Regan, Harper and Brenna Wahler, Callie and Tucker Conrad.
