Wilbert Martin, Sr. Obituary

Wilbert Lee Martin Sr. 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 19,2022 surrounded by his loving family at the Marley Neck Rehabilitation Center in Glen Burnie, Maryland.

Wilbert was born in Norfolk, Virginia on May 18, 1927 to the late George Martin and Arsteal White. The family moved from Virginia to New Jersey and then on to Maryland. Wilbert worked many jobs over the years.

Wilbert joined the Army in the early 50's. He was a Tank Commander while serving in the Army. He received an honorable discharged. Once released from active military service he transferred to Army Reserve to complete 8 years of service under Universal Military Training and Service Act. Wilbert never lost any days from active duty. Wilbert received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He worked as a truck driver for most of his career. Wilbert was passionate about his work and did what he had to do for a living in order to take care of his family.

Wilbert wore many hats over his lifetime. He was affectionately called Dad, Pop, Buster, Pop-Pop, Buck Martin, Daddy, Wilbert and Mr. Wilbert. Each name was dear to him and he wore them with pride.

Wilbert did actually have a hat collection from his children and friends as they traveled from state to state and country to country. He loved dressing up and knew he looked good  (which he did). He also loved dancing and music and he never wanted to leave the dance floor.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving father Wilbert also loved baseball, football, family cookouts, holiday get-togethers and watching his beloved westerns on tv. Anyone who knew Wilbert knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.

Wilbert was predeceased in death by his wife, Mary Rose, father, George, mother, Arsteal, brother, George Jr., and sisters, Pearl and Alice.

Left to cherish his memory are his five children- daughters, Mary Lee, of Bowie, Gwenda, of Bowie, three sons, Thomas, of Millersville, (Joyce), Wilbert Jr. of Easton (Carol), William (Billy) of Delaware (Neisha), grandson, Ron (La Donna) that he raised as his son, grandchildren, Carla, Shameka, Devan, great grandchildren, Montre, Taylor, Marty, Brandon, Jasmine, Ravin, and Rashod and our loving family from Pocomoke Maryland and a host of relatives and friends.

Dad, rest in Peace!
