Wendell Hayman, Jr. Obituary

Wendell David Hayman Jr. affectionately known as “David” departed this life on Friday, November 7, 2025 at the University of Maryland Medical Center at Easton.

Born on May 31, 1948 to the late Wendell Hayman, Sr. and Dola Hayman in Easton, Maryland. He was educated in Talbot County, graduating in the last class from Moton High School 1967.

David was drafted into the Army where he was stationed at Fort Bragg and Fort Leonard. On March 31 he arrived to serve in Vietnam where he received metals for National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, Bronze Star, and Air Medal. On November 21, David was promoted to Sergeant serving with 1st Air Cavalry Division in Lon Brink, Vietnam. After his honorable discharge from the service he worked at the United States Postal Office in Easton, MD.

Having a love for cars he followed in his father’s footsteps and started a career in the body and fender work. David worked for various body shops such as Noble Ford, Larry Woolford, Joey Smith, Bramble, and Elliott Trucking. He later became self-employed where he painted and fixed numerous people’s cars for over 30 years.

David loved the Ford brand of vehicles. He purchased a mustang and turned it into his first drag racing car called “The Hooker”. David would go to Delmar Race Track and other race tracks, sharing many stories about his wins and his near death experience racing, but God kept him.

Everyone loved to stop by Hayman’s Body Repair to talk, laugh, and have a good time. They all would pitch in helping anyone who stopped by in need of help.

David was a member of St. Stephens AME Church, where he loved to praise the Lord in the service. His favorite song he liked to sing was “I believe God will do what He said. Trust and Obey there’s no other way.”

He leaves to cherish his memories: two children, Cynthia Greene of Federalsburg, MD and Alex Hayman of Bridgeville, DE., four grandchildren; Mikeya Greene of Federalsburg, MD, Isaiah Greene-Hayman, Elijah Greene-Hayman (Zynasia) all of Seaford, DE, Marcus Greene of Chevy, MD, one great- granddaughter,  Kamora Jackson of Federalsburg, MD, five brothers; Ronald (Tonya) Hayman, Joseph (Karen) Hayman, Lenwood (Carolyn) Hayman all of Easton, MD, Glenwood (Leona) Hayman of Dover, DE, Larry Hayman of Tallahassee, FL, one sister, Deborah (Anthony) Short, of Easton, MD, sister-in-law; Virginia Hayman of Trappe, MD.  He also leaves his extended family, Roselee Wilkins of Preston, MD, three sisters-in-law; Darlene Wilmer of Denton, MD, Elizabeth Nichols of Preston, MD and Brendette Wilkins of Cordova,  MD, three brothers-in-law; James Wilson of Unionville, MD, Isaac Copper (Christine) and Charles Wilkins both of Easton, MD; Michael Greene of North Carolina, LaShanda Greene-Hayman of Seaford, DE and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
