Walter “Walt” Arthur Berry II, age 76, of Royal Oak, died on April 2, 2025, at home after a decade long battle with cancer. He was born on April 27, 1948, in New Castle, PA. He was the son of the late Caroline and Walter Arthur Berry I of Pennsylvania.
He graduated Laurel High School and Slippery Rock University where he met his wife, Janis Lee Francis. After graduation, the pair moved to Maryland where they began careers as educators in Talbot County Public Schools and started a family. Walt spent thirty years as a teacher in Saint Michaels Middle High School. He was also known by many as a coach. He dedicated several years of his life to sports including baseball, basketball, softball, and golf. He was able to help shape the lives of many young individuals through both teaching and coaching. After retiring from teaching, he continued to work for another ten years in the Pro Shop at Harbourtowne.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Janis Berry, whom he married on August 7, 1971. In addition to his wife, he is also preceded in death by his father, Walter Berry I, his mother, Caroline Berry, his brother, Ronald Berry (Alice), and his grandson, Nicholas Lupinos.
He is survived by two sons: Jonathan Berry (Alice) and Denny Berry (Mandy), six grandchildren: Ziola Quillen (James), Layla Berry, Jasper Berry, Brianna Crow, Delilah Berry, and Isabella Berry, two sisters: Janice Pardick (Hans) and Waldene Drake (Tom), and a mother-in-law: Joan Francis.
Walt is to be cremated and buried with his wife in Harlansburg, Pennsylvania where a small private service will be held the week of April 20, 2025.
A Celebration of Life at Royal Oak Church (6968 Bellevue Road, Royal Oak, Maryland) will be held on Saturday April 26, 2025, at 1pm.
