Walter "Gus" McGlannan, II Obituary

Gus McGlannan will always be remembered as a gentle man with a generous heart, a kind spirit and a servant's heart for God. He loved his Savior, his wife, family, friends and church family. Oh, and of course, his dogs.

Gus grew up in Catonsville, MD with his parents, Edgar (Rudy) and Jean McGlannan. and his siblings Sue, Steve, Mary, Joe and John. He attended St.Mark's Catholic School and graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School in 1970.

Gus loved to tell stories. His embellishments were legendary. We all would roll our eyes and laugh at tales of family life and vacations at the ocean. His stories of working summers at Warren Station on Fenwick Island bordered on the unbelievable. Let's not forget his cross country trip in which he brought back many photos and just as many stories.

Gus also endured hardship. After his trip, his father suddenly died. Gus did his best to give his mother a hand with the family. Then life changed again when Gus was diagnosed with a pituitary malfunction. After a successful surgery he lived a fairly normal life.

In 1985, life changed again when Gus married Mary Lyons whom he met at church. He loved the fact she was originally from Michigan. They settled in Brooklyn Park, MD and continued to attend Shore Christian Fellowship, the church where they met and married.

Life was good, especially when enjoying steamed crabs with others. Gus was all business when it came to crabs.

In 2015, Gus broke his ankle and couldn't return to Central Atlantic Toyota where he worked for over 45 years. As life went on, Gus' health began to decline. In 2019, Gus and Mary moved to Centreville MD to be closer to family and church. Eventually, his health issues took a tole on his body and had to enter long term care at Corsica Hills in Centreville. Gus did his best to adjust even with the COVID restrictions. He especially didn't like not seeing his dogs, Driver and Turner. They missed their daddy.

Gus developed an infection which put him in the ICU in Easton Hospital. He was unresponsive. He entered hospice on July 19. God blessed us by waking Gus up for 3 days. Mary and Gus said what was needed to be said to each other. Gus got to see and pet his dogs one last time. Some family and friends got to talk with him.

Gus peacefully went to Jesus in his sleep. God's plan for Gus' earthly life came to an end. He is now in Heaven rejoicing with his God and Savior.

Gus was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Howard and Audrey Jean McGlannan and a nephew, Patrick McGlannan.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years Mary M. (Lyons) McGlannan and his siblings Susan Radke (Edward), Stephen McGlannan, Mary Britt, Joseph McGlannan (Monique), John McGlannan (Patricia) along with his nephews and nieces and their children.

Gus, we miss you, your stories, jokes and especially your smile.

"Well done good and faithful servant."  Matthew 25:21
