Vanessa Kay “Doobie” Gland, was born to the late James Archie Gland and the late Eva Mae Rush, on August 1, 1958 and departed this life on January 30, 2021.
Vanessa graduated from Kent County High School and Chesapeake College. She worked at Silver Springs Credit Bureau and Penn Construction for many years, as an Administration Worker and Bookkeeper. She also worked various other jobs.
During her stay at Silver Springs, Vanessa gave birth to her son, J Daniel Herrington, on September 7, 1989. Becoming a mother was Vanessa’s greatest joy and passion, after the physicians’ said that it wouldn’t be possible.
Vanessa met the love of her life, the late Jeffery Barrett, who helped to raise her son. They were blessed to spend 29 years together.
Vanessa lived life to the fullest and loved to have a good time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking special requested meals for family and friends.
Vanessa was preceded in death by one aunt, Claudette Trusty; one uncle, Allen Wickes; two brothers, Leroy and Larry Rush and a longtime friend, Jeffery Barrett.
Vanessa leaves to cherish her memories, her son, J Daniel “JD” Herrington of Chestertown, MD; two grandchildren, Ja’Vir Herrington and Jordyn Tilghman of Chestertown, MD; six sisters, Rita Mae Gland, Veronica Rochester, Linda Gland, Lavern Newnam, Clarissa Daniels and Muriel Daniels; two brothers, Andrew Hackett and Michael Rush; one uncle, Robert Brown, Sr.; three aunts, Diane Rush, Yvonne Brown and Voncell Steward; a special niece, Michelle Rush and cousin Anna Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
