It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Thomas M. Vitaliy, who passed away on October 7, 2025, at the age of 33. Born on November 10, 1991, in Trenton, New Jersey, he lived in South Brunswick until 2005. He was the third child in the Luschinski family, a family of five: his mother, Mary Anne; his father, Anthony; his older brother, Edward; and his sisters, Elizabeth, Theresa, and Lauren.
They settled in Easton, Maryland, where Thomas completed his high school studies. He always had great musical talent, learning trumpet and guitar, he loves to run and read books, kayaking and always dedicated himself completely to his passion. With his guitar teacher, Jordan Page, he recorded a CD that showcased his beautiful voice. Joey, Devon, Max, Brian and Greg were some of
his best friends.
He traveled to Wisconsin and graduated from Marquette. He also earned his master's degree from the University of Galway, Ireland. Thomas lived and met many people during this time he married for the first time.
Thomas battled astrocytoma brain cancer and survived it for several years since 2014. Through tough experiences despite his illness and circumstances, he managed to move forward on his own. Going through this battle against cancer he had decided to changed his last name and chose a warrior one that means vitality. During these last six years, he spent a good amount of time alone, he could feel like a new man, free and clean from his illness cancer.
Thomas trained as a special education teacher and dedicated himself as a to teach and help children with disabilities and autism. He was also welcomed by a family we love, Chance and his mother, Cindy Jackson. He also met people who have been his unconditional support, the Thursday cancer group, with whom he always made his calls and who witnessed his process of personal
transformation; they were witnesses to Thomas's courage.
Thomas was also the favorite grandson of his maternal grandmother, Mary Burke, where he spent his summers accompanying and helping her like a good grandson. Thomas also admired his paternal grandfather and his dedication to his second wife Toki, whom he remembered with great affection because this couple was for him the example of love and dedication he always wanted in his life.
In 2022, he met his wife, Angelique, and he moved from Annapolis to Washington, D.C. They were working in special education at Shepard Pratt Rockville. They had both always wanted to start a family, at that moment, for both, it was a joy to have met. He said it was perfect timing. He had been disease-free at that time for about five years. They never thought they could have a child, and three months later, the unexpected happened.
At the same time, Thomas was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He survived his fourth surgery. They shared Christmas with Covid and tried to be very happy all the time until the disease led them to a process that lasted more years until the day of his death.
We had always support from neighbors and Angelique’s family and friends every one that knew Thomas really like him. Angelique recounts that, once in the George Town ICU, where she thought her husband might leave them, they asked Thomas his name, which he couldn't remember, but then they asked him his son's name, and he remembered it instantly. The doctors spoke only of the wonders the brain can do. Angelique knew his emotional connection with her and their son was so strong that nothing in the world could break it. Leo always held his hand rinse my baby belly trying to hold his father's hand, and Thomas always touched my baby belly with his hand looking for Leo. When Leo was born, it was unitedly the best day of his life. Leo is his true love.
Tuesday, October 7, was the most painful day for our family, but he was able to die peacefully. He came back to Easton and chose forgiveness. He fulfilled one of his wishes: to have a meaningful wedding, which he celebrated days before his death at Hospice House Talbot on October 3. He was very happy that day. Before he died, he also found peace in his soul and heart. He was very happy to reconnect with his family again.
Thomas was an extraordinary man, an excellent professional, husband, father, and son, who left an indelible mark on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Angelique Vitaliy, and on his behalf, thank his family and friends for their kind words and support. We now have an angel watching over his family from heaven.
Amen!
