Singleton Badger Riley of Cambridge departed this earthly life on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Signature-Mallard Bay Nursing Home in Cambridge, MD.
Singleton Badger was born on July 14, 1951 in Cambridge, MD to the late Annie Rose Badger and the late James Redmond Sr. She was educated in Dorchester County Public Schools. She graduated with the class of 1969 from Mace’s Lane High School. She participated in school activities and was a member of the Cheering Squad.
She was able to fulfil her passion for teaching at Kender Care, Tyson’s Corner in Virginia and Little Totland in Cambridge, MD. Her love for older people was shared by being a feeder at Community Nursing Home.
Singleton loved being involved in her community and she worked and she worked closely with the earlier Black Culture Organization and was crowned one of the Black Cultural Queens during that time.
Her God given talent and true love for singing, allowed her to perform as a singer with the group Big Sid & the Night Kappers and Chocolate Funk. She was given the name “Little Chaka Khan” and still today is affectionately remembered in that way by many who heard her sing.
Singleton’s love for the Lord allowed her to serve as Associated Pastor at Faith Deliverance, where she also held awesome positions as Praise and Worship Leader, Teacher, Evangelist and Prophetess.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Maggie Badger and Jessie Badger Sr., aunt Bernice Trusty and two uncles, Isaiah and Jessie Badger Jr., of New Jersey, two brothers, Algie F. Wheatley, Sr., Larry Badger Bey, sister, Rosemary Wheatley Merritt, and husbands, Michael Jolley and Darryle Riley.
Precious memories cherished by special daughter and son, Felicia & Terry Travers of Springfield, MO, two sisters, Joyce Opher and Robin Stanley (Gregory), of Cambridge, MD, brother, James Redmond, Jr. (Hattie) of Cambridge, MD, a sister-n-law, Wanda Badger of Cambridge, MD, a very special friend, Brenda Hyman, of Fairfax, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
