Sherwood Sharp, Sr. Obituary

Sherwood Howard Sharp, Sr. was born April 1, 1948, to the parents of Otis and Virginia Sharp (deceased). He made his transition to his heavenly home on November 9, 2021, at the Easton Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Sherwood was educated in the Caroline County School system, attending Jonestown Elementary School, Lockerman Junior High School, and graduated from Lockerman High School in 1966. After graduating from high school, Sherwood attended Delaware State College for 2 years, studying art. Then he moved to Philadelphia, Pa. and became employed with Capsland Meat Company and later with Buds Automobile Parts. He returned to the Eastern Shore of MD, and was employed for several years with Piedmont Airlines (now US Air), Salisbury, MD. Upon leaving Piedmont, Sherwood provided professional limousine services, and professional photography services.

Sherwood married Roberta Perkins on July 11, 1981. From their union, one son, Sherwood H. Sharp, Jr. (Woody) was born. Sherwood was a devoted father to his son. He became one of Woody’s strongest advocates in his Legal Shield career working and traveling with him on numerous occasions. Sherwood also became a father figure to many of Woody’s childhood friends.

Sherwood was very talented in many areas. He was a wood craftsman, a talented artist, a great singer, and had a love for gospel music. Sherwood’s life was focused on church activities, community involvement, and especially mentoring the youth. He was active in several churches. He was a young member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, was baptized in Union Baptist Church in Easton, Md, and was an active member in Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church for the Hurlock and Preston charges. Some of his community accomplishments, included advocating for a covered bus stop at Delaware State, introducing audio-visual services for Mt. Calvary United Methodist, was active in the Univ. of MD Eastern Shore (former Princess Anne College) community, and started the Men for Change Mentoring program for youth in Caroline County, a program he stayed committed to until his death. Sherwood poured into those kids. He stood firm on the life principles of kindness, responsibility for your actions, and knowing the love of God. Sherwood desired and expected his family and his community to succeed; and would proudly laud our accomplishments and be our biggest cheerleader in our life’s journey. Many of those he mentored would return to thank him for his dedication and support. In addition, Sherwood was a great confidant. If you confided in him, it stayed with him only. And whatever he needed to do to support you, he did, even when others did not understand the depth of his commitment. Sherwood was also a powerful prayer partner. He understood the power of prayer in all things. His demeanor was quiet, never argumentative.

Sherwood’s brothers Larry Sharp, Elwood N. Sharp (Brenda), Percy Cephas, and a sister, Alvoya Jones, preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn one son, Sherwood Howard Sharp, Jr (Shana), one grandson Matthew Sharp, former wife, Roberta Sharp, a twin brother, Sherman C. Sharp, Sr., Anthony (Tony) Cephas, Charles Cephus, Wendell Cephus; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Jones (Hilton) of Bridgetown, DE, Frances Cephas Coulborne, Lolita (Tammy) Evans, Barbara Holmes (Paul), Verna Jenkins of Preston, MD, Carol Ann Dotson, Atlanta, Ga, Loretta Sharp McCray of St Thomas, VI, one sister-in-law, Rosie Sharp (Larry) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and community connections and associates.

Psalms 25:9 (NIV) “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.”
