Shayla Denise Murray

On Tuesday, August 31, 2021, the Lord whispered “sweet peace” to our beloved Shayla; and she was called to eternal rest. She departed this life at University of Maryland Laurel Medical Center, in Laurel, Maryland. She was 38 years old.

Shayla Denise Murray was born in Easton, Maryland on October 16, 1982 to Lorraine and Larry. Shayla was raised in Jonestown before she and her family moved to Federalsburg. She was educated in the Caroline County Public School System and graduated from Colonel Richardson High School Class of 2000. She attended Goldey Beacom College in Wilmington, DE. She later went on to complete the Sussex Tech Adult Education Program to become a certified medial assistant.

Shayla loved her work in the healthcare industry. She was employed with Choice One-University of Maryland Urgent Care and Your Docs In.

Shayla was a compassionate, loving and fun person to be around. She had an infectious smile and enjoyed a good laugh. She loved taking selfies and the occasional screenshot (lol). She was an avid reader, loved listening to music and attending concerts. She was a huge fan of the artist NAS. Shayla loved her designer pocketbooks; you would not see her at an outing without one on her arm. She also loved to travel, cook and spend time with her family and friends.

While in the hospital, battling COVID-19 Pneumonia Shayla held fast to her faith and belief in God. In one of her messages to her sister she said “I am not going to give up I have FAITH and I believe in GOD!! We are fighters. We have to take it one day at a time.” Shayla was able to pray the prayer of repentance and give her life to Christ.

She leaves to cherish many great memories her beautiful, only child Jayla Murray, mother Lorraine Murray-Wilcox and step father Ronnie Wilcox, father Larry Johnson; siblings Shawna Murray, Shawn Murray, Shayna Washington, Anitra Hughes and Larry Johnson, Jr,; nephews Xavien, Darcy and Lurenzo; nieces Ta’Nizah, Jayda and Layla. Grandparents Willie Jackson (Ida) and Monroe Johnson, Sr.; Aunts Shanelle Mouring (Albert), Charita Jackson-Durosinmi (Mohammed), Anitra Jackson-Gonzalez (Angel), Lavonya Jackson, Natasha Johnson, Diane Johnson, Denise Johnson; Uncles Fredrick Johnson, Sr., Michael Murray (Ella), Cedrick Johnson, and Monroe Johnson, Jr. She also had a host of great aunts and uncles, many devoted cousins, extended family, close friends, and co-workers of which she loved them all.

Her beloved grandmothers Betty L. Jackson; Voletta Murray, and Rose Johnson preceded her in death. Shayla was a devoted mother, loving sister and daughter, and a great friend. She will forever be missed and will always be remembered. – Lovingly submitted the family.
