Shamaine Sherwood Obituary

It was a Wednesday, February 14th in the year 1968, Valentine's Day, when I made my entry into this world! I was born to the late Elizabeth Ann Sherwood.  O' was childhood all so special, the first born daughter, the first born grandchild, and the first born niece.

I found joy, comfort, and protection, on the lap of Grand-mom Mill.  I think I would probably have loved to stay there on her lap.  But life was waiting and I grew up.  I was educated in the Talbot County Public School System.  After graduation I did a few years of college then tried my hand at Culinary Arts.

Life was not all bad, I had some good times.  I was a girl scout and before you knew it, I was a Troop Leader.  I was a Junior Usher at Bethel A.M.E Church Easton Maryland in my younger years.  It was there that I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ during my senior year of High School.  Listen, there was a group of girls that I hung out with, we called ourselves the Sunkist Posse, and yes we were close, we were just like sisters.

Those youth and young adult years hold so many memories but scripture says… When I was a child, I thought as a child, I acted as a child, but when I became a woman, I put away childish things.  Which meant I had to go to work; I can remember staying in Illinois for a while, where I was a caretaker for the elderly.  Various positions have I held and found pleasure somedays in them all.  My last position, before my health began to fail, was ACME in St. Michaels, Maryland.

NOW, don't grieve for me, for now I am free, I am following the path God laid for me.

I took His hand when I heard Him call; I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day; to laugh, to love, to work, or play.

Tasks undone must stay that way, for I found peace at the close of the day.

Kendra, Aarionna, I am sorry if my parting has left a void; just fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, yes these things I too will miss.

Please don't be burdened with times of sorrow; I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life's been full, I have savored much; Good friends, good times, and a loved one's touch.

Perhaps to you my time has seemed all too brief… don't lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your hearts and share with me; God wanted me now… He set me FREE!

I leave you to cherish my memory: (Daughters) Kendra Lee Cambridge, Maryland and Aarionna Sherwood St. Michaels, Maryland (Sisters) Mary Speller and Linda Speller Easton, Maryland (Aunts) Barbara Sherwood-Hill Cambridge, Maryland Lenda Gibson-Smith & Linwood Trappe, Maryland Veda Gibson Easton, Maryland Joanne Sherwood-Allen Frederica, Delaware (Uncles) Andrew Sherwood & Victoria Greensboro, Maryland Rev.
