Russell Cornish was born on June 10, 1952, he was born to Blanche Cornish and Andrew Cornish. He was called home on December 29, 2022, at 70 years old. Russell was born and raised in Norfolk, VA, and he later moved to Cambridge, MD. Russell had many professions throughout his life. He retired from Dorchester County Board of Education where he worked for 26 years. Russell was very outgoing, and he loved to travel back and fourth to Virginia to visit his family. He was very charismatic and had a smile to melt your heart and a laugh to bring you joy. He touched many lives along the way. He was also an ordained Deacon in the Lord’s Church. His favorite hobbies were fishing, singing along to oldies but goodies, in which no one in the family could top his falsetto, so he thought, and he loved watching movies and soap operas. You could catch him sitting in the front yard catching a little breeze and catching up with his buddies or passing time with his wife, Agnes. His favorite football team was the Washington Redskins. He’d sometimes watch the game with his youngest son, Mario, on FaceTime or he would be on the phone discussing the latest plot twist about his favorite soap operas with his daughter, Yogananda, whom he affectionately called “Russtina.” Russell was exceptional when it came to his cooking and baking skills which he did on many special occasions, and he wasn’t too shabby on that grill during cookouts. Russell adored his brothers and sisters, and was a favorite amongst his nephews and nieces. He left a legacy behind with his five children, twelve grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Blanche and Andrew Cornish; brothers, Andrew Cornish (Big Man) and Montro Cornish; and sisters, Barbara Hill (Bobbi) and Annette Cornish-Gorrum. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Agnes Cornish; children, Carlena Ennals, Yogananda Cornish (Larry), Russell Johnson, a.k.a. “Lil Russell,” JemMario Johnson (Alice), Lanayshia Thompson, a.k.a. “Jazzy;” stepchildren, William Coley, Charmeka Johnson, and Regina Coley; brothers, Andrew Cornish, Carroll Cornish, and Barry Cornish; one sister, JoeAnn Cornish; father-in-law, Mr. Horace; brothers-in-law, James and Charles; sisters-in-law, Cynthia and Sylvia; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, special friends, Lee Dixon and Russell Forrest, and all those who loved him.
