Peggy Johnson

Peggy Lee Johnson of Newtown, Maryland departed this life on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton, Maryland. She was 81 years old.

Peggy was born on February 13, 1942, in Centreville, Maryland to the late Sarah Banks and William Smith. She received some of her education in the Queen Anne’s county public school system. She worked at Esskay Poultry in Cordova, Maryland, Shorgood Poultry in Hurlock, Maryland and retired from Allen Food after 36 years in the industry.

Peggy was a faithful member of New Zion United Methodist Church in Newtown, Maryland. She served as head of the hospitality committee, an usher, a trustee, on the SPRC Board, and a steward for the committee for the sick and shut-in. She was also the head of the food mobile program at New Zion. One thing about Peggy was that she loved to sing. She sang on the Gospel Choir and also on the New Zion Choir.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, John Johnson, son, Rickey C. Hynson (Barbara), grandparents, Charles H. Hynson, Etta Beatrice Hynson, son-in-law, Oscar Williams and Charles (Mickey) Smith, a special uncle.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Brenda Williams of Oxon Hill, MD, Lauranne and Shenita Hynson of Easton, MD, stepchildren, Vanessa, Joanne, Keith Johnson all of Salisbury, MD, Valerie Brown, Hepburn, MD, Anita Fay Rideout of Vienna, MD, Kendrick Jenkins of Glen Burnie, MD and Sherry Lynn Jenkins of Hurlock, MD, eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, godson, Dionte’ Hynson of Easton, MD, special first cousins Joseph Hynson and Linda Wilkins, special daughters, Rosalind, Candi, Dimples, Vicky, Heidi and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
