Mary Jenkins Obituary

Obituary

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” Ecclesiastes 3:1

A Time to be Born and A Time to Die- Eccl. 3:2

Mary Cecelia Griffin Jenkins, 88, daughter of the late George Cornelius and Mary Ellen Griffin(nee Handy), was born on Thursday, February 25, 1932 in Gouldtown, Maryland.  She peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at the Talbot Hospice Center, Easton, MD.

A Time to Grow- Eccl. 3:2

Mary received her formal education in Queen Anne’s County Public Schools, graduating from the historical Kennard High School. Soon after, she entered the domestic and food service industry leaving a legacy of hard work. Her culinary prowess was shared through her service at  such establishments as the Robert Morris Inn, Charlie Graves Uptown Club, Poseidon Inn, and Kimothy’s Place.

“Betty Ann”, as she was affectionately known received her spiritual training in the home of her parents and in her local church, Metropolitan United Methodist Church (Gouldtown Church).  In October 1953 she was joined in holy matrimony to Clyde P. Jenkins, Sr, taking on the nickname “Jenks” and “Aunt Jenks”; and later in life “Betty-Betty”.

She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles; going to the casino, watching the afternoon soap operas(the stories), and spending time with family and friends. Her greatest love was her family. She was famous for her macaroni and cheese, crab cakes, and sweet potatoes, among many other family favorites. She was always there with her gentle, humble spirit and contagious laugh. She had a way of making everything alright. She was gentle but when she didn’t like something she would let you know.  Yet, she never made negative remarks about anyone.  Betty Ann aka Jenks aka Betty-Betty will be remembered for her laugh, calm, peaceful, and humble spirit.

A Time to Embrace- Eccl. 3:5

Mary leaves to embrace and cherish her memory and rejoice in her eternal victory, her husband of 67 years, Clyde Jenkins, Sr;  six children, Shirley Ann Gaines-Webb (Gregory), Easton, MD, Charles Thomas, Washington, DC, Deborah Jenkins, Easton, MD, Clyde Jenkins, Jr. (Lucy), Cordova, MD; Michelle Jenkins (Ronnie) Cambridge, MD; and Vernon Jenkins (Tracey), Ridgely, MD; 12 grandchildren (Kim, Tony, Andre, Keieve, Tabius, Teddy, Dachell, Robert, Montaye, Kieka, Vernon, Shamikka); 37 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy “Elaine” Warrick of Grasonville, MD; one brother, George “Oliver” Griffin of Hackensack, NJ; three sisters-in-law, Iris, Lorraine, and Marlene; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
