Marilyn Schrock Loy passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 in Easton, MD where she lived her last earthly days in a loving memory care facility. Marilyn was born December 18, 1935 and was raised in the small town of Lacon, IL along the Illinois River graduating valedictorian of her high school class in 1953. She began her college career at Illinois Wesleyan but after two years married local businessman Robert Loy and raised four children. Eventually the family moved to Sandwich, IL.
Later in life, Marilyn returned to college, receiving her BA in Library Sciences and MS in Counseling from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL. Desiring to be of service, she moved to Lees College in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky working as a residence hall advisor. Upon returning to IL, she lived in DeKalb and Sycamore and worked as a counselor at Children’s Development Center in Rockford, IL.
Marilyn was an active member of churches throughout her life, frequently a member of the choir and serving on committees. She was a member of P.E.O. for over 50 years. She traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe, China, and India. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, and spending time with friends. She was a lifelong learner.
Marilyn is survived by her children Pamela (Joseph) Ollinger of Salisbury MD, Charles “Chip” (Cheri) of Hoschton, GA, and Bradley (Amy) of Raymore, MO. Her grandchildren were one of her greatest joys in life. She was affectionately known as Grandma M. to Mike, Lisa, Derrick, Tracy, Kelcy, Morgan, Teagan, Max, Shelley, Eric, Lorraine, Wes, Carl, Elizabeth, Chad, Rebecca, and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Suzanne (Roger) Hahn and Jean Onisko and several loving nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Estelle Schrock and her son Bryan.
A service is tentatively planned at Westminster Presbyterian Church, DeKalb IL Tuesday, June 14th, 11:00 followed by a light lunch. If inclined, memorial donations may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb IL 60115, or to the charity of your choice.
