Marian Odessa Sherwood Green, daughter of the late Florence Virginia Warner Sherwood and Oliver M. Sherwood, gained her heavenly wings on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, in Easton, MD. She was 94.
Born April 7, 1927, Marian lived all her life in her hometown of Easton. The oldest of 16 children, she learned to be a caretaker early on, so after graduating from Moton High School in 1945, she went on to become a Nursing Assistant at Memorial Hospital (UMSMC) in Easton, and continued as a private patient sitter until she was 85.
Marian was a faithful lifetime member of St. Matthews U.M.C. in Longwoods, MD, where she served as President of the Usher Board, Trustee, Kitchen Committee Member, Communion Stewart and Custodian. Her on-the-go spirit kept Marian active in the community, visiting hospitals and nursing homes, and delivering holiday baskets to the elderly, sick and shut in. She was also a member of Blake Blackston American Legion Auxiliary Unit #77, The Odd Fellows Lodge in Unionville, MD, Richards Memorial Cemetery, Chapel Cemetery and Copperville Cemetery.
Few things brought Marian more joy in her life than children, sitting outside, and eating–especially hard crabs. In fact, Marian and her best friend, Mary Thomas, were regulars at Golden Coral and Easton Diner.
In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Green, Jr.; sisters, Juanita Sherwood, Ruth Sherwood and Catherine Sherwood Butts; brothers, Oliver Sherwood, Harold Sherwood and Herbert Sherwood; and grandson, Derrick Cooper.
Left to cherish her memory are her three loving daughters, Georgene Cooper, Marian Earthalee Cooper and Cynthia Smothers, all of Easton, MD; one son, Keith Tyrone (Vanessa) Sherwood of Mt. Vernon, NY; one step daughter, Melinda Sylvia of Easton, MD; one step son, Gregory Hall of Palm Springs, FL; sister, Florence Louise Sherwood of Easton, MD; brothers, Stanley Sherwood of Gary, IN, Jacob (MaryAnne) Sherwood of Gary, IN, Norman (Lola) Sherwood of Gary, IN; one special brother, Earl Sherwood of Easton, MD; two grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two godsons, one special niece and an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
