Leonard “Lenny” Wayne Brooks was born on February 12, 1963 to the late Leonard Levi Brooks and Doris Lucille Brooks. He departed this earth on Monday, December 5, 2022 at the age of 59.
Lenny attended Easton High School graduating in 1982. While in high school Lenny was a star basketball player (#21) and football player. He actually played all sports, as he would tell his kids and grandkids. He went on to attend Chesapeake Community College where he met his future wife, Sherell Gibson, they married on July 27, 1991.
Lenny started his career in the construction field as a pile driver working with Whiting and Turner, he then moved on to Cianbro where he continued to work for 30+ years. He loved his job although it was not an easy one. He was proud of his skills and what he had accomplished. He took pride in the projects that he worked on, the ones he bragged about the most were the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the National Harbor Ferris Wheel. He enjoyed telling his grandkids “Pop Pop Lenny helped to build that”. His job was not just a job to him it was a part of him. His co-workers became his friends and family.
Lenny was an all around good guy who loved to be around friends and family. He also loved to argue and out talk you with his booming voice. He loved football, a diehard Washington Commanders (Redskins) fan, he took pride in calling friends and family to rub in any victory they had. He enjoyed riding bikes with his brothers, grandkids, nephews and friends. He loved cars and loved to dress, and affectionately became known as “Gucci” to family and friends. The absolute love of his life were his grandkids. Always present at recitals, football games, school events, you name it, he was there. Lenny was the type of person who formed a genuine relationship with whoever he talked to and because of that we will all miss him dearly. His presence was one that couldn’t be ignored and when he stepped into a room, his loud voice and large stature demanded attention. The mark he left was a good lasting impression.
He will always remain in our hearts forever. This isn’t the end for Lenny Brooks, his children and grandchildren will keep his legacy alive.
Leonard is survived by his wife Sherell Brooks, three children; Sheonna Gibson (Tanzeel), Shelea Tention (Dajohs), and Rishawn Brooks, eight grandchildren;: Azhier Tention, Naseem Tention, Sanaya Raoof, Nyelle Tention, Samia Raoof, Tymere Tention, Sameer Raoof, and Messiah Brooks, two brothers; Melvin Blake (Cheryl) and Bradford Brooks (Janice), four sister; Anna Wilson, Marlene Brown, Aretter Cunningham, and Bronta Bell (Terrance), and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, cousins, great nephews, great nieces and many friends.
