Larry Nelson Sharp, known by most as “Rooster” was son to the late Elsie Butler-Jones and Otis N. Sharp and son to the late Virginia Lee Sharp. He was born on December 18, 1939 in the community of Jonestown, Preston, Md. He departed his life on December 25, 2020 at his home in Preston, Md. He was surrounded by family.
Besides his mother Elsie, Larry was raised by his late grandmother Clara Bessie Murray and two late aunts Bertie Murray and Frances Deshield. Larry was educated in Caroline County at Jonestown Elementary School, Jonestown Community, Preston, Md. and Lockerman High School, Denton, Md., were he attended until he was 16 years old. He married Rosie Alberta Blount in 1971. They had over 50 years of life together.
Larry worked at Caroline Poultry, Federalsburg, Md. After leaving Caroline Poultry he worked at Wicomico Construction, James Jullian Construction and retired from Allen Foods (Amick), Hurlock, Md.
He was a member of Coppins AME Church, Jonestown, Preston, Md. Although he was not an active member he helped with repairs at the church and the cemetery.
He was a retired member of the Thunder Guards Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and being with his club brothers. He spent some of his quiet moments listening to the “60’s and 70’s” songs. Some of his favorites were by Roy C and “Harry Hippie” by Bobby Womack. He loved his purple and black Baltimore Ravens football team and most of all he loved his family.
He leave to celebrate his life and cherished memories to his wife, Rosie A. Sharp, children: Loretta (Candy) Sharp (Mardela, Md.), Sandra (Sandy) Blount (Henderson, Md), Vincent (Scrap) Chester (Cambridge, Md.), Lorraine (Toy) and Keith Lightfoot (Salisbury, Md.) Robin Blount (Federalsburg, Md.), Montell and Sharon Sharp (Princess Anne, Md.) and Larry Friend (Ridgely, Md.,). siblings: Doris Bolden, Ferman and Mary Butler, Deborah Jones, H. Vanessa Jones, Jonie Dixon, Sadie Jones, Sherwood and Sherman Sharp, Barbara and Paul Holmes, Loretta McCray, Verna Mae Jenkins, William Jones and Carol Anne Dotson, Elizabeth and Hilton Jones, Frances Coulbourn, Etta Butler, Albert Thomas Sr., 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Elsie Jones, father: Otis Sharp and second mother Virginia Lee Sharp, son: Jamie Johnson, grandson Maurice Stanley III, brothers: Donald, James and William Butler and Elwood Sharp, sisters: Mable Jones and Alvolya Frazier, brother-in-law, Vance Bolden Sr. and sisters-in-law Brenda Sharp and Thelma Butler.
