Jean Frances Ayers Moaney peacefully transcended into eternity at Easton Memorial Hospital on Tuesday night, May 17, 2022, at the age of 81. Jean was born on July 24, 1940, in Easton, Maryland, to the late Charles and Sara Ayers.
Jean attended Moton High School in Easton, Maryland. In 1957, she married Phillip Bernard Moaney, Sr., and was married to him until his untimely death on April 30, 1979.
Jean dedicated her life to taking care of children, as well as a few elders. Throughout the Eastern Shore, Jean was known as “Gammy” to all as she exuded love to anyone who came into her life. She has passed on a legacy of caretaking amongst her children and grandchildren, as exhibited by their careers in childcare, education, and other human services fields.
In addition to her reputation as a caretaker, Jean was known for her outgoing personality and her extraordinary sense of humor. In her younger days, you would typically find Jean befriending new people who crossed her path and spending time with friends and family at social gatherings.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Sara Ayers, and five brothers, William Ayers, Charles Ayers, Edward Ayers, Charles Smothers, and Edward Moaney.
Jean leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Beverly Brooks (Ricky), Michelle Moaney, Lisa Pinder (Donnell), Phyllis Jenkins (Terence), and Phil Moaney, Jr. (Michael), all of Easton, Maryland; five grandchildren, Lakisha Warner (Steven), Dwayne Brooks, Jr., Dynesha Brooks, Mariah Pinder, and Tah’Jay Jenkins; two great-grandchildren, Ja’Kai and Israel Brooks; one brother, Robert Ayers; three sisters, Doris Butler, Barbara Ayers, and Brenda Brittingham; four sisters-in-law, Luvenia Drain (Glenn), Shirley Moaney, Paulette Moaney, and Jacqueline Wheatley; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends. Jean was immensely proud of her children and family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
