James Edward Brummell, Jr.

James Edward Brummell, Jr. was born on January 25, 1936 to the late James Edward Brummell, Sr. and Catherine Baltimore Brummell.  James was the eldest of five siblings. He departed this life on August 15, 2023 at his home after a long illness.

James was a lifelong resident of Caroline County where he also received his education. He is a graduate of Lockerman High school, Class of 1955. 

James’ eldest son is Rodney Stanley.  James met and married the love of his life, Evangeline Rebecca Thompson on June 22, 1958. To that union was born James III, Larry, Michael, Dawn, and Tyrell. 

James was employed by the Caroline County Public School system for over 40 years. He retired from driving bus #34 after 43 years.   He worked in the evenings as a janitor at Colonel Richardson Middle and High School. He also worked for Caroline County Public Works.  

James accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at Greater Mount Zion Pentecostal Church in Preston, Md. He later became a member of The International House of Worship under the leadership of his daughter, Pastor Dawn R. Ellison.  

James loved his family, coming to church, talking, laughing, cutting grass, and eating good food.  His quick wit and sarcasm kept us laughing and talking behind his back saying, “Did you hear what Dad just said?”

James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Catherine Brummell, wife, Evangeline Brummell, brother, Royal Brummell, sister, Alena Holmes and son, James Brummell III, and great-granddaughter, Keimya Bivens. 

James leaves to cherish his memory, son, Rodney (Butch) Stanley (Sheriell) of Baltimore, MD, Larry Brummell (Regina) of NJ, Michael Brummell of Federalsburg MD,  Dawn Ellison (Keith) of Preston, MD, Tyrell Brummell (Jeneene) Preston, MD, brother, Fred Brummell (Pat), sister, Jeanette Brummell, brothers-in-law, George Thompson, Robert Thompson, Samuel Thompson, sisters-in-law, Gloria Henry, Barbara Thompson, Cora Thompson, Glenda Thompson, grandchildren, Michael Brummell, Jr., Jawan Rich (Brandy), Jhyana Brummell, Jonathan Brummell, Stephen Brummell, Sharee Abbott, Laticia Bivens (Lester), Kayla Abbott, Tyrell Brummell, Jr., special granddaughters, Tashera Evans, Royshonda Boulden, Denesha German, special grandson, Omar Bolden, great-grandchildren, Micah Taylor, Jordan Stanley, Isaiah Rich, Olivia Rich, Korzon Bivens, Kearsta Bivens, Caleb Brummell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
