Jamal McElvey Obituary

Jamal McElvey was born November 30, 1983 to the late Mr. Leedell and Dr. Kay McElvey.

He was a 2001 graduate of North Dorchester High School in Hurlock, Maryland. In 2006 he received his Bachelor Of Arts degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in English. During college Jamal worked with WBOC and their Homework Hotline. He loved assisting with the show as students called in with homework questions.

After graduating college, Jamal was employed at Amick Farms and volunteered at the Harriet Tubman Team of Excellence Center. Jamal also participated in several local theater productions, such as “A Fool and His Money”, “Dreamgirls”, “The Color Purple”, and is most known for his role as the lion in “The Wiz”. He moved to Georgia in 2015 and was employed at Kroger and Marco's Pizza.

For anyone who knew Jamal he loved sports. On any day you would see him dressed in his favorite sports team outfit. He loved the University Kentucky basketball team, the Baltimore Orioles and is a fan of the Washington Commanders. Outside of sports, he loved his family and friends. Jamal loved to spend time with family and friends and would not hesitate to pick up the phone and check in on them. No matter who he was around he loved to laugh and give solid advice. He always wanted the best for everyone and would do anything for you.

Jamal is leaving behind his sister Dawn Chandler-Turner (Ervin) of Suwanee, GA, two brothers, Andre’ McElvey (Genille) of Cumming, GA., Marlon Parker (Gabby) of Hurlock, two nephews, Jaden, Sincere and Justin of GA, McKenna, Allison, and Adelynn of Hurlock, aunt Emma Johnson of Hurlock, uncle Michael Johnson (Judy) of Severn, MD, and his special girlfriend, Andera Howard.
