Gwenda Martin Obituary

GWENDA MARTIN departed this life on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, with family and friends by her side, at the George Washington Hospital in Washington, D.C.. Gwenda was born on December 14, 1948, in Easton, Maryland. She was raised in the little town on the Miles River known as Saint Michaels, Maryland.

Gwenda attended Robert Russa Moton High School. She graduated with the Class of 1966. Gwenda went on to complete her education at Cortez Peters Business School in Washington, D.C.
After business school, she landed a job with the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C., where she retired after 44 years of service. She received many presidential awards and accolades for her work. After retirement, Gwenda was involved in lots of community work and volunteer work. She was in management at the Warner Theater.

Growing up, Gwenda was a daring little girl. She loved to climb heights. She would always climb the ladder with her dad to get up on the roof of the house. She was always taking skydiving trips all over the country. She loved to ski. She was active in ski clubs and would take ski trips all over the world.

Gwenda was a very active member of Foundry Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. She was very much loved in the Church Community.

Gwenda was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert and Mary; and sister, Mary Lee. Those left to cherish her memory include her brothers, Thomas of Severn, MD, Wilbert Jr. (Carol) of St. Michaels, MD, and William (Neisha) of Dover, DE; nephew, Ron (Ladonna) of Federalsburg, MD; nieces, Shameka (Rodney) of Glen Burnie, MD, Carla (Brandon) of St. Michaels, MD, and
Devan; great-nieces, Marti, Taylor, Savannah, Jasmine, Ravin; great-nephews, Brandon Jr., Montre, Rashid, and Ty Jr.; great-great- nephew, Mack; and godchild, Brittany Matthews.

Gwenda also leaves to mourn Dale Webb who she loved dearly and just like a big brother. She also leaves to mourn, Francis Kobel, who she loved also and were like sisters for 60 years. She also leaves Melanie Britt, who cared for her though thick and thin, especially, when her health was failing. They were like two peas in a pod and they were a great team.
