Gertrude (“Sugar”) McCormick

MCCORMICK – Gertrude T., of Easton, a native of Fort Greene, Brooklyn, on January 19, 2023 in her 89th year. Gertrude spent her early life in Brooklyn where she graduated from Catherine McAuley high school in 1951. She married her soul mate and beloved husband Jim in 1959. They raised their four children in Coram, Long Island where Gert’s Christmas Eve parties became a local tradition. After Jim’s retirement, they moved to Long Beach. Friends, neighbors, and everyone in town knew them as an inseparable pair who never left each other’s side, except when Gert would meet her friends for a weekly game of mahjong. Her children Andrew (Lyn), Carol (Gregory), Mary Kate (Ben) and Jim (Kristin) and her eight grandchildren, Brent(Kristyn), Dan(Marissa), Charlie, Andrew, Caeley, Lindsay, Owen and Duncan will miss her terrific sense of humor, generosity, and willingness to help others. The family will host a memorial celebration at JJ Coopers in Long Beach, NY on Saturday, February 4th from 5-9p.m. Please join us for a celebration of a life well-lived.
