Gertrude Brown Obituary

Gertrude Anna Warrick Brown, age 91 of Longwoods, Easton, MD peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Caroline Nursing and Rehab, Denton, MD.

Gertrude was born on January 25, 1933 to the late Thomas and Viola Warrick, Sr. in Talbot County. “Gertie” was the fourth child out of nine born to this union.

Gertie attended schools in Talbot County. She was the first high school graduate from her family and was in the first class to graduate from Robert Russa Moton High School in Easton, MD.

Gertrude was later joined in holy matrimony to William S. Brown. Gertie was always like a fragile flower, shy, quiet, and reserved. God gave her the gift of being a good listener. She was always available to lend a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, and a smile that gave you the assurance that everything would be alright. Gertrude loved the Lord. She became a faithful member of St. Matthew United Methodist (formerly known as McGee UMC) as a young child following in the footsteps of her mother Viola. Gertrude loved her church and was always willing to serve. She was a member of the Hospitality and Finance Committees and sang with the choir.

Gertrude loved tending to her flowers on her porch. She had several pots of flowers everywhere. But her favorite hobbies were shopping, dressing, and finding a bargain. She could save a dollar; she would never spend her last dime. She was the family banker; you could go to her for a loan anytime and she would have whatever you needed. But remember; when you borrowed it, she gave it to you with a smile, therefore she expected it to be paid back with a smile as well. She could and she would save not only money but clothes, shoes, and anything else she thought was of value.

Gertrude was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Viola; husband, William “Bunky” Brown; brothers; Earl, Thomas, Jr., Charles and Stewart; sisters; Amelia, Viola and Mazie.

She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Angela, two sons, Curtis (Cheryl), Mark (Valerie); seven grandchildren; Catonya, Roshanda, LaCree, McCall, Mattison, Lo’Nelle, and McKenna; four great-grandchildren; Ra’Shad, Mykira, Jamari, and August, one sister, Juanita and one brother, Joseph (Melvine); her oldest niece, Zena Mae (who she raised as one of her own) and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
