Georgie Mae McCrea was born on Saturday, December 11, 1955, to George Hill and Niece Mae Cox. She transitioned on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
Georgie received her early education in Clewiston, Florida, and later moved to Greenwood, Delaware, with her beloved sister, Betty Jo Carter. She graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1973 and pursued Secretarial Studies at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown, DE.
A dedicated and compassionate woman, Georgie Mae worked tirelessly throughout her life. She served as Head of Human Resources at American Original Foods and spent many years at J.G. Townsend Frozen Foods, where she was known for her loyalty and exceptional service. More recently, she worked at His Hope Ministries as a Homeless Shelter Monitor and at RI International as a Life Coach. She proudly earned her Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Certification, a testament to her unwavering commitment to helping others.
Georgie Mae was a fierce advocate for the homeless, individuals battling addiction, and those facing mental health challenges. She took immense pride in ensuring that the facilities she worked in were safe, clean, and welcoming to all. Her nurturing spirit—equal parts stern, funny, and deeply loving—extended into her passion for cooking, especially during the holidays. Thanksgiving meals were often prepared days in advance, and her family eagerly looked forward to her signature dishes: jerk chicken, oxtails, beef and broccoli, chicken and rice, strawberry cake, and so many more.
In 1998, around the time her youngest granddaughter Yasmin “Yaz” was born, Georgie Mae gave her life to the Lord and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bridgeville under the leadership of Reverend Woodrow Evans. She served faithfully as a trustee and secretary. Over the years, she also worshipped at All Walks of Life under Apostle Randy Jones, Radiant Church under Pastor Michael Bell, and most recently at The Life Center under Pastor Tim Banks. Despite her health challenges and long work hours, she remained committed to attending Sunday services, especially watching her granddaughter sing in the choir.
Georgie Mae was preceded in death by her loving sisters, Betty Jo Carter and Maddie Mae, brothers, Maseo Davenport Sr., Soney Orbit and Raymond Cox; special nephew, Maseo Davenport Jr., sister-in-law, Betty Ann Anderson Davenport, and niece, Lynnette Mays.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and service. Cherishing her memory are her devoted daughter, Nicole “Nikki” Hill of Greenwood, DE, brother, Jimmi Lee Hill (Gerri) of Fort Myers, FL, special niece, Lena Pearl of Middletown, CT, grandchildren; Keyana Hill (Shawn Williams) of Denton, MD, Yasmin Hill of Greenwood, DE, and Jeffone Lee Hill of Georgetown, DE, great-grandchildren; Mckenzie Hill of Denton, MD, Memory Hill of Harrington, DE, and Rizhay Pinkett of Dover, DE; four special nephews; Mark Mays of Philadelphia, PA, Sherrod Holden (Luann) of Seaford, DE, Dennis Davenport (Shaunte) of Salisbury, MD, and Julius Purnell of Atlanta, GA; cousin, Ruth Hill of Pawling, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Her life was a testament to faith, resilience, and unconditional love.
