Florine Brummell of Federalsburg, MD born on November 7, 1939, passed away on September 1,2024 at home after many long years of illness. She was 84 years old.
Florine leaves to mourn her passing two children, Wamon Brummell (Federalsburg. MD), Ladonya Brummell (Magnolia, DE), seven grandchildren; LaWanda Abner (Seaford, DE), LaChoya Brummell (Federalsburg, MD), LaShica Brummell (Baltimore, MD), Jeffrey Stevenson Jr. (Federalsburg, MD), JeAira Stevenson (Easton, MD), Wamon Brummell Jr. (Baltimore MD), and Raven Hammond (Federalsburg, MD), ten great-grandchildren, three sisters; Mary Batson (Hurlock, MD), Imogene Bolden (Hurlock, MD) and Gloria Batson (Seaford, DE), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Florine attended Frederick Douglas Elementary and Middle in Seaford, DE, Jason High in Georgetown, DE and graduated from Maces Lane High Cambridge, MD with the class of 1957.
She went to sewing school and became a certified seamstress. She demonstrated her skills by working in sewing factories and the merchandise being sold in various stores. While working at the sewing factory in Federalsburg, MD she was hired by the Dorchester County Board of Education as a Teacher’s Assistant in elementary schools on the northern end of the county. She retired after 40 years of service. Florine believed that children should do their best in school and continue their education if possible.
Florine hosted years of Mother- Daughter Fashion/Talent Shows at ABC Daycare and the building would be packed. She also volunteered at the ABC Daycare Center Federalsburg, MD for several years. She was also the President of the Community Civic League until her sickness. She enjoyed traveling with the Senior Citizens.
Florine was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Federalsburg, MD and attended until her health failed . Bethel, being a part of three churches was closed to do one service on Sundays, but within a few weeks of her making phone calls, the church was reopened. She held many positions while being a member at Bethel. She enjoyed reciting her favorite poem, ‘Being the mother of A Black Child” by Mona Lakes Jones at various churches and events.
Florine was preceded in death by parents, Reuben Evans and Reva Bolden, husband, Donald Lee Brummell, three brothers, Drexel, Carmen, and Wilbert Bolden, three sisters, Shirley Bolden Brummell, Parthenia (Sis) Lake, and Delphine Warren.
Florine lived her life to the fullest and treated people the way she wanted to be treated. She will be sadly missed by many.
