Florence Jenkins Obituary

Florence Ann (Henry) Jenkins, the daughter of the late Sarah Ellen (Murray) Henry Demby and William Howard Henry, Sr., was suddenly called from labor to reward on Sunday, March 3, 2024. Florence was born in Ridgely, Maryland on April 21, 1950.

She attended Ridgely Elementary School, Lockerman High School, and graduated from North Caroline High School, Class of 1969. Florence was a scholar athlete and played volleyball, basketball, field hockey, and ran track. After graduating, she received clerical training and certification from Job Corps. Her last place of employment was Yale Sportswear, where she worked as a seamstress.

Florence loved the Lord. She gave her life to Christ and joined Greater New Hope Church and Ministries (formerly New Hope Baptist Church) where she actively served in ministry and was an ordained Elder. She was devoted to her church and served on the Usher’s Board, Kitchen Ministry, and Christian Education Ministry. She was a dedicated teacher and taught New Members and Discipleship classes. She also cleaned the church for several years until her health failed.

Florence enjoyed teaching, reading, and studying the word of God. She shared the good news of the Gospel as inspired by the Holy Spirit, with zeal and passion, and was a prayer warrior for her family. Florence loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She was a very proud mother. She supported her children and celebrated their accomplishments. Her grandchildren often visited and called. When they were younger, they stayed with her during summer vacation.

Florence loved everything about family, and enjoyed spending time together and making memories. Florence grew up surrounded by love and extended family in the home of her grandmother, Annie Rebecca Murray, and her aunt, Mary Rebecca Stratton. From their example, she opened her heart and her home to her extended family including her sister, Carlotta, and her children, Charlene, Athena, and William. Florence also provided a home and served as a caregiver for her mother, Sarah, and aunt, Mary, in their elderly years.

Florence loved to cook and spent many hours behind the scenes pouring her love into the preparation of delicious feasts for church, family gatherings, holidays, and on special occasions. Florence was a strong woman, hardworking, compassionate, and caring. She was also humble, had a big heart, and would give you the shirt off her back. Everything she set her mind to, she did with determination and full commitment to complete the task. She met her health challenges with the same endurance and fought with dignity and strength, trusting God until the end.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Patrick Adedigba; two sons, Edwin Randolph Henry, Sr., (Yolanda) of Tinton Falls, NJ, and Henry Gilbert Mayes (Chelsea) of Baltimore, MD; three grandchildren, Evan R. Henry of Tinton Falls, NJ, Majiyah Henry of Middletown, DE, and Henriette G. Mayes of Richmond, VA; one sister, Carlotta M. Johnson of Hurlock, MD; one brother, Charles W. Henry, Sr. (Shirley); sister-in-law, Rhodesia Henry of York, PA; brothers-in-law, Joseph Jenkins of Preston, MD, and Charles Jenkins of Easton, MD; three aunts, Delores Price of Ellendale, DE, Charlotta Wilson of Wilmington, DE, and Betty Murray of Ridgely, MD; one uncle, Herbert Hoover Seth of Wilmington, DE; two godsons, Charles W. Henry, Jr., of Greensboro, MD, and Jehiyah G. Brown of Easton, MD; beloved niece, Charlene Gould (Andre) of Stevensville, MD; dear friends, Karen and Edwin Taylor of Hurlock, MD, and Rose Sheppard of Harrington, DE; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her aunt, Mary Rebecca Stratton; husband of 24 years, Theodore B. Jenkins; two grandsons, Edwin Jr. and Evander; three brothers, Robert Sylvester Henry, William Howard Henry, Jr., and Clifton Henry; sister, Rosetta Henry; step-father, Hazel Demby; and two step-brothers, Bernard and Vernon Demby. Loving memories never die, years go on and days go by, but in our hearts our memories are kept, of one we loved and will never forget. The Family
