To the Matriarch of Our Family, Evangeline V. Hudson Jones!
Evangeline was born on February 3, 1926 to Cassie Hubbard and Riley Hudson in Dorchester County, MD.
Evangeline also attended and graduated from Dorchester County High School. Howard University saw her outstanding academic achievement and accepted her as a student, but she chose to travel to New York City with her mother instead.
Evangeline was a hard worker, her work ethic remained strong her entire life. She was very committed to everything that she was a part of. She worked at Nevin’s Daycare Center for over 20 years until they closed. She later found employment as a foster grandparent at the New York City College of Technology, where she retired. Her occupations showed her love for children. Although “Van” as many called her, had children of her own, she never hesitated to help other children as well.
Van has been the guest of honor numerous times at various events where she received plaques and awards for her dedication.
Evangeline also enjoyed being a part of worthy organizations that were near to her heart. She was a member of Brown’s Memorial Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Early in her life, Evangeline met Elmer Young and to this union her first child, Celestine Gibson, was born. She would later meet Lawrence Jones and to this union came four generations.
Van leaves to cherish her loving memory, her children; Celestine E. Gibson (Clyde), Paulette Denise Williamson (Paul Simmons), Patricia Ann Santana (Tony), Pamela Evonne Jones (Herbert Thompson Jr.), Wanda Olivia Brown, grandchildren; Ronald, Anton, Charon, Shawntel, Anthony, Colby, Shannae, Michelle, Tawana, Rasheem, great-grandchildren; Kamika, Shaniqua, Shannon, Ronald Jr., Anton Jr., Shaliq, Christian, Quentin, Zamour, Shawn, Co’quan, Daytwan, Yaniece, Zaire, Legend, and Kayla, great-great grandchildren; Amir, Ayrai, Eleese, Khelani, Princeton, Hailey, Matoe, and Jay Jay, and a host of other family and friends.
