Etta Sarina (Smothers) Butler

Etta Sarina Butler, 77 of Preston, Maryland passed away on Friday, February 24,2023. Etta was born on March 13,1945 to the late John Wesley and Susie Caroline Smothers in Easton, Maryland.

Etta attended public school in Talbot County, Maryland at the Robert Russa Moton school. She played on the girl’s basketball team and was a girl scout. 

Etta was baptized at a young age at Union Baptist Church in Easton, Maryland, where she later served as an usher, choir member, and as a missionary. 

On July 24, 1964, Etta married Donald Butler, and from this union came four children, Erica, Donna, Karen, and Michele. 

Etta was employed with Cannon Foods in Bridgeville, DE. for a period of time, before becoming employed with Kraft Foods (General Foods) for several long years.

Living in Preston, she became a member of Coppins AME Church. She enjoyed spending time with her close family and friends. She loved planting flowers, and planted many flowers each year in her front yard. She enjoyed crocheting, watching western movies, dogs and cats, backyard barbecues, music, and dancing. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her late husband Donald, daughter, Karen, two sisters; Mary Smothers and Shirley Grace, brother, Leonard Perkins, nephew, Charles Smothers, and brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

Etta leaves to cherish her fond memories, her three daughters; Erica, Donna, and Michele, eight grand children; Kevonda, Natalie, Tameka, Takeshia, Dondrey (Brenda), Monaye, Davonte, and De’Asia, fourteen great-grand children, one god-daughter, Tracey Whittaker, three special nephews; Kelvin Smothers, James Butler Jr., and Daniel Grace and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and other relatives.
