Edda Courtney Obituary

Edda Claudia Lee Zadnik died April 8, 2024 in Easton, Maryland, just 2 days short of her 88th birthday.  She was born April 10,1936 in Berlin, Germany, daughter of the late Egon Zadnik and Francis (Roderbourg) Zadnik of Munich, Germany; niece of the late Kurt Roderbourg, professor at the United States Naval Academy (USNA); great granddaughter of the late Rear Admiral James Madison Miller, USNA; and sister of the late Marion Binder of Munich, Germany.

Edda immigrated to the United States in 1957 from Munich, Germany, with her first husband, the late Kurt F. Peter, and became a naturalized citizen.  They had 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  She always wanted a big family!

Her second husband, the late Carlton J. “Mickey” Courtney, of 30 years gave her a lifetime of love and laughter.

She attended schools in Munich, Germany, college at Anne Arundel Community College and the University of Maryland.  She was an avid reader, interested in politics, and loved gardening and music.  She also loved writing and became a speech writer for a senator in Annapolis and retired from the Maryland General Assembly.  She wrote her memoirs about her family history and growing up in Europe during WW2.

Edda leaves behind her children, Anina Stouder of California (and family), Andreas Peter of Queenstown, Maryland (and family), and Michael Peter of Centreville, Maryland (and family), her family in Germany and her friends.

She had a remarkable and fascinating life and has left an impression in our hearts.

The family would like to especially thank the caring staff at Bayleigh Chase in Easton, Maryland.

A private memorial service was held at Oxford Cemetery in Talbot County, Maryland.
