On Thursday April 28, 2022, Doretha Peterson peacefully passed away at her home in Seaford, Delaware surrounded by her love ones and best friend. Doretha was born in Dorchester County to Willie and Helen (Cottom) Peterson on September 16, 1955.
Doretha graduated from North Dorchester High School, in the class of 1973. One of Doretha’s passion and hobbies were, cooking and delivering food to family and friends. She was a great cook and people looked forward to receiving one of her cooked meals. She loved shopping and traveling to different places to site see.
Doretha was very outspoken, but loved to spend time with her closest family members and friends. Doretha worked at several factories between Maryland and Delaware, and later in life became a caregiver until she recently became ill. She was a member of Immanuel House of Praise in Seaford, DE.
Doretha leaves to cherish her memories to her daughter, LaWanda Lanese Murray of Federalsburg, MD and her only grandchild; a granddaughter Tamisha Jonae Perry of Federalsburg, MD, goddaughter, Tameka Teagle of Seaford, DE, two brothers; William (Shirley) Peterson of Hurlock, MD and Richard Peterson of Hurlock, MD, one sister, Christine (Peterson) Lankford of Federalsburg MD, very special nieces, Tynika Hudson, Elaine (Hudson) Pinkett, Sherlaine Cornish, a special cousin, Sheretta Cottom and a good friend Sheena Rhodes, who all shared in the responsibility of caring for Doretha when she took ill, special nephews; Ray Hudson Sr, Little Leon Brooken, Kevin Peterson Sr. and Andre’ Barham Sr., a longtime friend in Florence Brittingham, along with other good friends Faye Batson, Linda Robinson, Wanda Banks, Beverly Butler, Pauline Spry and close cousins; John Cottom and Barbara Ann Frazier.
Doretha is preceded in death by one daughter Shakenya Renaye Murray, her parents Willie and Helen Peterson, two brothers Willie Peterson Jr, Charles Peterson, and two sisters Bernice and Elaine Peterson.
