Donna Marlene Butler of Preston, MD passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 58. Donna was born on January 8, 1965, in Easton, MD and was the second daughter to the late Donald and Etta Butler.
Donna affectionately known as Marlene or Mal attended school in Caroline County and graduated from Colonel Richardson High School with the class of 1983. During her school years she participated in track and field, volleyball, glee club and band where she played the drums. She began her career in 1993 at Coldwater Seafood Corp. in Cambridge, MD, where she dedicated 14 years of service. In 2007, she started working for Medifast Distribution Center in Ridgely, MD, where she was employed for 7 years. After that she went on to be an Assistant Manager for Goose Creek/Subway in Hurlock, MD until her health forced her into an early retirement. She spent her last years caring for her grandchildren who she greatly loved and adored.
Mal accepted the Lord and was baptized on March 26, 2017, at Easton Church of Christ. She took fellowship at Cambridge Church of Christ. She was an active member attending many events including Ladies Day. In the wake of her illness she remained faithful to worship and bible studies.
Mal enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was well known for her outgoing personality and her sense of fashion, which she took pride in. Some of her favorite pastimes were shopping, dancing and later on in life she developed a passion for cooking. Most of all she was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, cousin and friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Karen Butler.
Mal leaves to cherish her fond memories two daughters; Tameka (Cory) and Monaye and a very special niece who she raised as her own, Takeshia, all of Federalsburg, MD; three sisters, Erica and Michele of Preston, MD, Tama Macer of Hurlock, MD; Kelvin Smothers (Phyllis) who was raised by Donald and Etta Butler; eight grandchildren, Tonia, Taryn, Teori, Telaa, Quentin, Cory Jr., Tegan and Tatum, a special friend, Troy Bolden of Federalsburg, MD and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
