Della Emma Johns was born to the late Joshua F. Holland and Bertie Emily Thomas on April 9, 1931 in Caroline County, Maryland, She was one of three children. Della attended Lockerman High School in Denton, Maryland.
On July 11, 1951 Della married Leroy Roscoe Johns, to whom she was deeply devoted. Together they raised four children: Arnold, Ronald, Leroy"Maurice" and Deborah,
Della started out as a factory worker and later became a seamstress at Fed Sportsware, Federalsburg, Maryland. She remained there until they closed. After their closing she went to work for Black + Decker, from which she retired.
She first started attending church at Zoar Methodist, which later merged with Mt Pleasant and Johns Methodist Churches and became Mt Calvary United Methodist Church. In 1970 a new church which is located on Dover Bridge Road, Preston, Maryland was built. As a member there, Della served faithfully as a Communion Steward until her health failed.
You could always find her on any given day cooking and baking those delicious yeast rolls and cakes. She also loved sewing.
Della leaves to cherish her memories, Ronald (Jayne), Leroy, better known as Maurice (Paulette), Deborah (Waples), one grandchild, Ronald Deshields, one great grandchild, Jayana Brown, a special cousin, Addie Butler, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents Della was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Roscoe Johns, one son Arnold Johns, sister, Dorothy Calhoun and brother Charles Holland.
