Darnell Camper Obituary

On April 02, 1968, Darnell Camper was born to Sherwood Sr. and Doris Camper of Hurlock, MD. He departed this life on April 02, 2026, in Baltimore, MD.

He graduated from North Dorchester High School in 1986, where he was a dedicated track athlete who excelled in shot put. Darnell enjoyed watching basketball and football; his favorite team was San Francisco 49ers.

Darnell was employed at the Dorchester County Courthouse and worked numerous odd jobs for family and friends.  Darnell’s heart was so big that the word “no” was not in his vocabulary.  Darnell was genuine in spirit and in heart.  If you had the pleasure of being in his presence, you couldn’t deny that he was one of a kind.

Darnell loved his family, and he made sure he expressed that every day.  He enjoyed spending time and helping them with anything they needed. Some of his favorite hobbies were going to bingo and to the casino with his mom and sisters.  They often called him lucky because he would hit big and then wait until his mother was out of sight and jokingly say, “I stung’em, didn’t I?”, then would beg them not to tell Doris.

Darnell loved to see people smile.  If you wanted to laugh, turn on Dru Hill or one of his favorite artists, Jelly Roll, and he would instantly turn into a country singer.

Darnell enjoyed cleaning, cooking, and honey; he just knew he was a chef.

Although Darnell did not have children of his own, he loved kids, and they always gravitated to him. Darnell loved his brothers and sisters. Darnell loved all his nieces and nephews, although he did have his picks.  His favorite nieces, LaMiaya (cook cook), and Si’Mir (pork chop) will always hold a special place in his heart.

Darnell had a heart of gold. He loved making people smile by talking smack, telling jokes, dancing, and singing.

In addition to his death, Darnell is preceded in death by his nephew, Ronell Camper, grandparents, Victoria and Amos Jones, Sr., Susie Mae Cottom and John Cottom, Sr., William and Sarah Camper, uncles and aunts, Robert Jones, Amos Jones II, Oliver and Karen Jones, Joseph Newcomb, Odessa and Wilmer Young, Thelma Butler, Anthony Jones, Bertha Mae West, Barbara Jones. Along with a host of cousins.

He leaves to mourn his father and mother, Sherwood, Sr., and Doris Camper; four siblings, John Camper, Sherwood Camper Jr., Sherina Frazier (Gordon), and Wenona Holland (Michael), special aunts; Evangeline Jones, Shirley Cottom, Betty Camper, and Audrey Jones,  special uncles; Clifford Camper, John Cottom Jr., and Charles Jones, a special cousins, Sherita Cottom, Ronda Courson and Ronnett Stanley, special friends, Jackie and Lisa and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Darnell, you were a true definition of a “GENTLE GIANT” who will be forever missed. Your laugh, your smile, and your sense of humor will never fade from our memories.  We loved you then, and we will love you now, and forever.
