Clyde "Sonny" Jenkins Obituary

Clyde Perry Jenkins aka “Sonny” is the son of the late George Jenkins and Maggie Wright. He was born on April 10, 1929 on Mill Street in Oxford, MD.  Clyde passed away on February 17, 2024 at Bayleigh Chase in Easton, MD at the age of 94.

Sonny was educated at the School House in Oxford. After receiving his education, he proudly decided to serve his country and enlisted into the United States Army on February 23, 1951. During that time he served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged on November 22, 1952. After his military career, Clyde married Mary Griffin on October 30, 1953.

Sonny was no stranger to hard work. He held various jobs throughout his life which include driving truck in the Seafood industry, working at Newmar’s Crab House, Paul’s Seafood and Pier Street, Standard Fusee (Orion), and the Talbot Country Club, where he worked for 8 years until he retired.

Bro. Jenkins was a member of Waters United Methodist Church in Oxford, MD. He showed his dedication by serving as the President of the United Methodist Men, he was a trustee, a member of the Men’s Choir, and an usher for many, many, many years. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 77 of Easton, MD.

Clyde special hobbies were watching his Baltimore Orioles, RedSkins, Ravens and Little League Baseball.

Clyde was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Mary Griffin Jenkins, three children, one sister, one niece, one nephew (and his wife), and numerous other relatives.

Clyde is survived by his children, Shirley (Gregory), Charles, Deborah, Clyde Jr. (Lucy), Michelle (Ronnie), Vernon (Tracy), Daphne, Dale, Stevie, Lisa, Derek, Kirk, and Melinda, special sister-in-law, Dorothy Griffin Warrick, twenty-two grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
