Clara Dixon Obituary

Clara Renae Potts Dixon was born on October 17, 1946 in Easton, Maryland. She departed this life on December 20, 2020, in Dover, Delaware.

Raised in Thomastown, Maryland, Clara was the fourth daughter of the late Milford Reese Potts and the late Lillian B. Horner Potts. She attended Caroline County schools and graduated from Lockerman High School in 1964. Clara attended the University of Maryland—Eastern Shore where she studied biology, before completing her studies with a bachelor of science from Trenton State College. Clara went on to further her education with a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science from the prestigious New Jersey Institute of Technology. Clara’s career extended from New Jersey at American Cyanamid where she retired, after over 25 years of service, to retiring after ten years of service as an Industrial Hygienist from the State Of Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Upon retirement, Clara committed to teach science to young adults as a substitute teacher for Dover public schools.

Clara was a Golden Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and supported the Cambridge Alumnae Chapter in their activities. She loved playing word games, traveling, and dancing with the First State Steppers. She could often be found hanging out with her sisters and her daughter at their favorite crab house, or trying her luck in one of the Dover casinos.

In addition to her parents, Clara is predeceased by her sisters, Vivian “Diddy” Wilson and Gloria Jean (Potts) Austin. She leaves to mourn her loving and supportive husband, Leo Dixon; her daughter, whom she loved with all of her being, Lisa (Potts) Cunningham (Noble) of Fort Washington, MD; two sisters, Lillian “Faye” Potts Minus (Fredric) of Smyrna, DE and Melanie Boston (Allen) of West Windsor, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
