It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother, Cherry Lether Gibson. She passed away peacefully at The Pines Nursing Home in Easton, MD on August 5, 2024 at the age of 66.
Cherry was born to the late Daisy Gibson and the late William Stanford Jr. on April 1, 1958. It was always difficult and fun trying to prank her with an April Fool’s jokes growing up.
Cherry was a daddy’s girl. She was raised in St. Michael’s, MD by her father and his wife, the late Virginia Stanford, whom she loved dearly.
Cherry was educated in Talbot County public schools. She was liked by many of her classmates. They described her as smart, beautiful, funny and kindhearted. She was a gentle soul, but one who knew how to put someone in their place if they got out of line.
Cherry always had a smile on her face. It suited her well in her career and in life. Cherry was employed for many years at the Crab Claw Restaurant, Harbourtowne Golf Resort, and the Inn at Perry Cabin to name just a few. She took pride in her work and noticed many details that others would sometimes miss.
Cherry loved her family and friends very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed looking sexy as she was a very beautiful woman, inside and out. She could rock a wig like nobody’s business, long before the lacefront craze of the new school. She could also be spotted by her signature fishnet pantyhose. She spent time with friends at the American Legion in both Easton and Cambridge. She enjoyed long walks stopping along the way to share a kind word to friends and strangers alike.
Cherry was an excellent cook and would have superbowl get togethers with spaghetti and fried chicken. We will miss her deviled eggs and tuna macaroni salad.
Cherry was our earth angel. She was baptized in 2007 by Bishop Dane Coleman of Greater New Hope Church Ministries. Cherry would attend church at various locations where she could be among believers.
Cherry was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert “Bobby” Frazier and Earl “Joe” Gibson, sister-in-law, Bernice Frazier, brother-in-law, Ricky Handy, and a dearly beloved niece, Briketa Frazier.
Cherry leaves to mourn two daughters who she cherished, Nicole Ayers of St. Michaels, MD, Angelia Johnson of Cambridge, MD, sisters; Mona (Franklin) Tilghman, Goldie Harris, Sadonia Harris, Bonnie Handy, brother, William (Pam) Frazier, thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, special sons-in-love, Julian Ford and Dennis Ayers Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
