Chad Armstrong Obituary

Chad Dimitrius Armstrong passed away on August 25, 2024, in Greensboro, North Carolina.  Chad was born on June 23, 1988 in Cheverly, Maryland to Cynthia Smith and Michael Armstrong.

From a young age, Chad was a dedicated student in the Prince George’s County Public Schools, graduating from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in 2007. He then continued his academic journey at Louisburg College in Louisburg, NC, where he earned an associate degree. Chad furthered his studies at Greensboro College in Greensboro, NC, where he obtained his first bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He earned a second bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Maryland University College in Adelphi, MD.

Chad chose a fulfilling career in education, dedicating himself to supporting students with special needs in elementary and middle schools as well as alternative programs in the Guilford County Schools. As a teacher of exceptional children, Chad approached each day with compassion and a genuine desire to make a difference, believing in the potential of every student. He positively impacted hundreds of students, tirelessly working to create a supportive and inclusive environment where his students could thrive. Beyond the classroom, Chad also served as a mentor and coach for middle school adolescent males of color in the Verizon Innovative Learning Program at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC, further demonstrating his commitment to positively influencing more than a thousand young lives.

Chad was a natural-born athlete who began playing sports at an early age. He excelled in soccer, baseball, and basketball, but his true passion was football. Chad transitioned to coaching in 2014, serving as a football coach at Grimsley Senior High School, T.W. Andrews High School, Northeast Guilford High School, and Northwest Guilford High School, where he inspired and motivated student-athletes to reach their highest potential. He later expanded his coaching talents at The Academy at Lincoln, coaching girls' basketball, track & field, and volleyball, continuing his legacy of dedication and mentorship. Off the field, Chad worked as security staff at Blue Bourbon Jack’s in High Point, NC.

Chad had an incredible sense of humor and often called himself a part-time comedian. He had a gift for cracking jokes that could brighten any room, and his infectious laughter was impossible to resist. More than just a jokester, Chad was a captivating storyteller, weaving tales with such charm and wit that he could hold an audience’s attention for hours. His ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him was one of his greatest gifts, a legacy that will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

In 2011, Chad embraced his most cherished role when his son, Na’Sir, was born. From the moment Na’Sir entered his life, he became Chad's pride and joy. Chad eagerly took on the responsibility of fatherhood with unwavering love and dedication. He cherished every moment spent with Na’Sir, pouring his heart into their time together and creating countless treasured memories. Being a father was the role Chad was most proud of, and his bond with NaSir was the most meaningful and rewarding part of his life.

Chad, nurtured by his family's strong Christian faith, began his spiritual journey at Reid Temple AME in Glenn Dale, MD, where he found a sense of home and community. His journey later led him to Harvest Church in Greensboro, NC, where he deepened his faith and made lasting connections.

Chad was predeceased by his grandparents, Lillian Smith and Milton Smith, Sr., his uncles, Milton Smith II and Odel Powell, Sr., bonus dad Kenneth Hanbury and bonus brother Timmy Hanbury.

Chad is lovingly remembered by his son, Na’Sir Armstrong, Na’Sir’s mother, Damira Jones, and his mother, Cynthia Smith. He is also survived by his devoted and dedicated aunt, Bernice 'Aunt Libby' Stewart, and his aunt Geraldine Powell, his cherished sister, Crystal Nwabuko, and his nieces and nephews: Kamari Scott, Ryan Hollis, Michael Adams, Montana Walton, Dakota Walton, Mikaela Walton, McKenna Walton, Jiyah Hollis, and Cheyanne Hollis. Chad was blessed with his bonus mother, Elizabeth Hanbury, and his Godfather, Freeman Daniels.
