Catherine Elizabeth Bolden Lewis, was born December 29, 1930 in Finchville, MD to the late Bertha Tilghman Bolden and Vernon Bolden, Sr. She departed this life on December 1, 2022 at her home. She started her education at Cokesbury Elementary School, Cokesbury, MD which was then a one room school. She graduated from St. Clair High School, Cambridge, MD in 1948 at the age of 17. She started working in poultry factories at an early age retiring from Con Agra, Hurlock, MD In 1990. She also worked at Harper Bateman, Hurlock, MD.
Catherine was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, Cokesbury, MD until it’s closing. She then joined Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Finchville, MD where she served as the correspondence secretary for the United Methodist Women for 27 years. She also served on the Homecoming and special days food committees. She loved to cook and would always be willing to assist in the church’s kitchen. Catherine was known for her sense of style especially her fashionable church hats. Everyone loved talking to Catherine because of her sense of humor and jokes would keep you in stitches. There wasn’t anything she didn’t know about the family and the Finchville neighborhood. We’d fondly refer to her as the “Mayor of Finchville”.
Catherine enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, watching game shows, cooking, going to the casino and social gatherings with family and friends. She was affectionately known as Aunt Catherine to many friends of the family.
Catherine leaves to mourn six children, Daniela Dixon (Craig) of Rhodesdale, MD, Deanna Rodgers (William) of Glen Burnie, MD, Eric Batson (Denicia) of Baltimore, MD, Georgia Davis of East New Market, MD, Lisa Bolden of Cambridge, MD, Gretha Sutton (Thomas) of East Orange, NJ; twelve grandchildren, Kadeem Rodgers, Eric Batson II, Yiarra Batson, Vincenta Parker, Khantice Hill, Tasha Morrison, Dointe Sutton, Trent Sutton, Michelle Sutton, Tyherra Sutton, Sharona Sutton, and Faynisha Sutton; eleven great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Lewis; Special people, nieces Mary Batson, Faye Batson, cousins Faye Evans Stanley, Beverly Holmes and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Isaac Lewis and nine siblings, Reva Bolden, Ida Bolden, Lula Bolden, Ollie Bolden, Marian Batson, Vernon Bolden, Jr. Tyree Bolden, George Bolden and Franklin Bolden.
