Carrie Anna Roy Sampson, age 105, received her angel wings to go home on Thursday, June 17, 2021. She was born on November 27, 1915 in Greensboro, MD to the late Florence Griffin and the late Carty Roy.
Carrie attended school in Ridgely, MD and went to the fifth grade.
Carrie married Norman Sampson on December 26, 1933 and shared 57 years together until his passing on January 20 1990.
Carrie did seasonal factory work and house work for many years. She and Norman were foster parents to many. She attended churches in Matthewstown and Chapel. She was an usher and sang on the choir. “One Day at a Time” was her favorite Hymn.
Carrie was still living alone in her apartment at Federalsburg Gardens with assistance from family members from age 100 to 103.
In October, 2020, she needed 24 hour care and was admitted to Caroline Nursing Home. Her joys where; visits and calls from her grandkids and her niece, Phyllis, family visits with desserts for her birthday, telephone calls and visits from Jacqueline Thomas, receiving calls from her cousin, Elwood Roy saying “Carrie, how you been, I just wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday”.
Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norman, grandson, Bobby Williams Jr., son-in-law, Kenneth Friend, brothers, Carroll Roy, Harlon Roy, sisters; Helen Dean Neal, Blanche Shirley Davis.
Carrie leaves to cherish her memories, daughters; Susan Friend, Shirley Raikes, grandchildren; Ashley, Le’mar, Monte, five great-grandchildren, special cousins “Roy Family”, special nieces and their families, Phyliss Hubbard, Jacqueline Thomas, Mabel Carey and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
