Carolyn Bolden Obituary

Carolyn E. Bolden, a cherished member of her community that leaves a legacy of kindness and strength passed away at her home on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the age of 72. She was surrounded by her loving family. Carolyn was born on April 10, 1952, at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md to the late Algie and Sedonia Conaway. The family relocated to the Eastern Shore when Carolyn was 8 years old and they resided in East New Market, Maryland where she and the family were members of the Faith Community Methodist Church.

During Carolyn’s middle school years, she won many National Spelling Bee contests, and in High School she was a member of the National Honor Society. Carolyn graduated from North Dorchester High School in 1970 and obtained a 4-year scholarship to Morgan State University.

Carolyn’s favorite hobby was reading, and she loved creative writing and would be often found writing poems. She also enjoyed road trips with her sisters, going out to eat and shopping. Over the last year she has enjoyed spending quality time with her granddaughter Janiyla.

Carolyn’s knowledge and skill set was so great that her job possibilities were endless. She worked for many years at Coldwater Seafood, Waverly press, Tidewater publishing, and EPS which led her to the government printing office. Once she got bored at the printing office, she went to work for the United States Congress in 1992. Under the chairmanship of Senator Edward Kennedy, she worked on the Health Education and Labor and Pensions. During her tenure at Congress, she encountered a lot of famous people, presidents, vice presidents, political activist and actors. She worked closely with Senator Barack Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton. Her highlight while working at Congress was being invited to the inauguration of President Barack Obama. Carolyn retired from the U.S. Congress on December 31, 2018.

Carolyn and her late husband Bradford Bolden Sr. had a love for people.  They would often host gatherings at their home. They were both full of life and fun and wanted to share that with the world.  All were welcomed in their home so much so, that some people did not want to leave. They used their family gatherings to show love, and they gave many people the friendship that they needed to make it through another day.

Carolyn was predeceased six months ago by her husband Bradford E. Bolden Sr., her parents, Algie and Sedonia Conaway, Grandparents, James and Alma Conaway and George and Mary Henry, her sister Jacqueline Cain, Brother and Sister-in-law, Gregory and Sherita Conaway, Brother-in-law Dietrich Gaskins, Nephews, Early Cain Jr., and Darnell Cain, and her grandson, Jerod D.
