Burton Wilson Obituary

On Wednesday, May 8, 2024 God called Burton Blake Wilson to come home and rejoice in His presence at the age of 83. Born on October 9, 1940 to the late Harry Wilson and Bertha Wilson. He was a beloved member of the community, known for his Wilson Family and Friends Day and Mr. B’s Soul Food Restaurant and dinners.

Burton started his early childhood education at the Little Schoolhouse on Coppersville Road in Easton Maryland and from there attended Robert Russa Moton Junior/Senior High School. He was a longtime member of St. Stephens AME Church where he served on the Steward Board and sung in the choir. “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” was one of his favorite hymns.

On September 11, 1965 Burton united in marriage with the love of his life Hilda Lewis Wilson. They were married for 58 years.

During his early years of employment Burton was a truck driver for Barry Fox’s Trucking Company for over 20 years. He retired after 26 years of outstanding service from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration as a Supervisor. Burton made sure everyone knew he was on a billboard for the State of Maryland posted on Rt. 13. He was a hard-working man always taking on odd jobs. He worked for PT Hambleton Seafood and George Hill, Jr. & Sons Seafood driving from state to state, provided limousine service for Whoopi Goldberg and was a caretaker for the Sykes family.

Burton actively participated in various community events. He served on local boards and committees (Mid Shore Regional Council, Talbot County Habitat for Humanity, NAACP) just to name a few.

Burton loved watching and attending sports events and was a huge fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens. He also had a green thumb for gardening. The Easton Star Democrat did an article on him for growing the tallest sunflowers in Talbot County.

Burton was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Murton Wilson, brothers, Ralph and Edgar Wilson; grandson, Justin Lewis; brothers-in-law, Charles Cramer and Robert Tucker, Sr.

Burton leaves to mourn and cherish his memories: his loving wife, Hilda Wilson; daughters, Roxanne Wilson-Flamer of Suffolk, VA, Krystal Wilson of Easton, MD; and son, Gary Lewis, Sr. (Paula) of Dover, DE; grandchildren:  Kevin Flamer, Jr. of Tampa FL, Deondre Flamer (Latasha) of Virginia Beach, VA, Ronnell Copper (Jenae) of El Paso, TX, Albert Thomas, III of Edgewater, MD, Gary Lewis, Jr. and Phillip Lewis, both of Dover, DE; great-grandchildren: Kyree, Kaiden, Deyona, Deondre, Jr., Anastasia, Harmony, Sincere, Naomi and Phillip, Jr.; sisters, Thelma Cramer of Lewes, DE and Constance Tucker of Vallejo, CA, brother, Harry Wilson (Betty) of Dothan, AL; sisters in law, Barbara Rich of Easton, MD and Mary Wilson (Joseph) of Denton, MD; brothers in law, William Lewis, Marley Lewis (Diane) and Gary Lewis all of Easton, MD, his work son, Randy Adkins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
