Augustine Ruth Nichols Briggs transitioned to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 12, 2022. She was born on January 28, 1951 to the late Emerson Nichols and Otelia Thomas Nichols. Augustine received her education in the Caroline County Maryland Public School System. She came through the school system during the period of desegregation in the 1960s and chose to transfer from Lockerman High School to Colonel Richardson High School.
At an early age, Augustine accepted the Lord and was baptized at Coppin AME Church in Jonestown, MD.
Augustine loved to draw growing up and her parents and siblings just knew that would be one of her careers. She also loved the casino.
Augustine moved to Philadelphia, PA. after she graduated and spent several years there before moving back to Maryland. For many years she worked at Cadmus (formerly Waverly Press) in Easton, MD and where she eventually retired.
Augustine enjoyed good food and could cook as well. She was mild tempered but if you lit her fuse, she was a firecracker. She was a woman of few words but the expression on her face told you what she was thinking without saying anything. Augustine loved her grandkids – all eleven of them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Briggs, brothers, Arthur Thomas and Edward Nichols, paternal grandparents, Norman Nichols Sr. and Ruth Thomas Nichols, and maternal grandparents, Philip Thomas and Blanche Thomas.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Leon “Eric” Nichols of Stevensville, MD, Damon Nichols (Letitia) of Denton, MD and Kiera “Kiki” Briggs of Hurlock, Md, eleven grandchildren; Leon Nichols Jr., JaDijah Nichols, Tykia Nichols, Trevon Nichols, Leonjah Nichols, Taliyah Nichols, Leondrea Nichols, Nakiza Freeman, Damon Nichols Jr., Leiah Nichols, and Siriana Briggs, seven great grandchildren; King, Serenity, and Infinity Nichols; Jahmir Johnson; Sevin Jolley; Brayden Carter and Nyla Freeman, four siblings; Diane Blackwell of New Castle, DE, Clinton Cephas (Kem) of Wilmington, DE, Darlene Nichols of Federalsburg, MD, and Delema Pittman of Preston, MD, paternal uncle, Norman Lee Nichols Jr., and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers.
