Alfred Curtis Obituary

Alfred Curtis fondly known as “Junior” was born on June 16, 1935, to Alfred Sherwood and Mary Lillian Curtis-Sherwood in Baltimore, Maryland. After a life filled with love, faith, and dedication, he peacefully departed this world on February 7, 2025, at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma.

He received his early childhood education in Baltimore City Public Schools. A man of many talents, Alfred was a self-taught craftsman whose skilled hands could master any trade. A true definition of a jack-of-all-trades. He took pride in his work and found joy in creating, repairing, and building with remarkable precision.

Beyond his craftsmanship, he was blessed with a God-given talent for music. For many years, he shared his gift of singing and performing as a dedicated member of The Newtones of Grasonville, MD; Robinson’s AME Church of Grasonville, MD; New Life Church of Centreville, MD; and New Zion UM Church of Newtown, MD. Music brought great fulfillment to his life, and he continued to share his gift with the world even in his final days. His voice, like his presence, was a source of comfort and joy to those who knew him.

Alfred is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mary Sherwood; his sons Donald Hunt Sr. and Robert Curtis; his daughter Charnita Curtis; five grandsons Travis Curtis, Donald Hunt Jr., Keith Curtis Jr., Kantrell Curtis, and Anthony Brice Jr.; two great-granddaughters Trinity Huff and Aaliyah Huff; one great-great-granddaughter Jailani Greer; two brothers Allen Smith and Robert Curtis; one sister Lorraine Coles; three nephews Troy Brown, Curtis Fisher, and Anthony Fisher; and one niece Diane Cooper.

After many years of sharing his love, wisdom, and kindness, those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife, Lottie Curtis, affectionately known as “Boss Lady,” and his children Lashon Sturdivant, Antoine Hunt, Alfred Hunt, Kenneth Hunt, Deborah Johnson (Laurence), Wayne Curtis (Sarah), Tanya Curtis (Paul), Keith Curtis (Xavier), NaTasha Curtis, India Curtis and Andres Moore a grandson whom he raised as his own. Additionally, he embraced Andrea Fenwick and Larry Adkins as his children, adopting them in love.

He is also survived by 45 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. He leaves behind two sisters, Agnes Claggett and Erlene Brown; one sister-in-law, Helen Wright (Wilbert); one brother-in-law, Leon Jones (Lisa); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will also cherish his memory.

Among those he considered family were two very close friends, Robert Jackson and Charles Evans, whom he regarded as brothers.
