Albert Fletcher Obituary

While surrounded by his loving family, Albert Wayne Fletcher, affectionately known as “Wayne,” peacefully took his wings at 10:40am on March 16, 2023 at Tidal Health Nanticoke Hospital in Seaford, DE.

Wayne was born on March 30, 1954 to the late Albert Hubbard and Mildred Fletcher, and was raised by his aunt and uncle, Naomi and George McGlotten.

Wayne grew up in Preston Maryland in a community named “Jonestown,” and attended Caroline County public schools.

In 1977, Wayne met the “love of his life” Darnell through one of his best friends “June Bug,” and in 1982 they were married.  From this union/marriage, they birthed two children.

In 1984, Wayne moved his family to Jersey City, NJ, where he and Darnell continued to raise and nurture their children.

Over the years, Wayne worked for several companies including, poultry factories,  R&L CARRIERS as a supervisor for many years, and Fedway Associates, where he worked until he retired.

Wayne always had a love for gospel music – particularly “quartet” singing!    During his younger adult years in Maryland, he sang with a local group called the “Voices of Determination.”  Wayne remained a member for 10 yrs. – and you couldn’t tell him they weren’t “On the Charts!”

In 1985, after moving to New Jersey, Wayne joined another quartet group called “The Echoes of Harmony.” It was then, that Wayne rededicated  his life back  to Christ - and as a result, he and his family joined Mt. Zion Fire Baptized Holiness Church, under the Leadership of Pastor David Hackley, and later, Pastor Willie Clark.

Wayne, later went on to sing with other local quartet groups including, the “Cavaliers,” “Uplifters,” “Rugged Cross,” and the “Gospel Sons.”

Wayne’s great passion for music allotted him the honor and privilege to sing on the same platform with many famous quartet groups including, Keith “Wonder Boy” Johnson, Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC’S, The Canton Spirituals, the Williams Brothers, the Swanee Quintet, and even Bobby Jones, who took the “Cavaliers”  to Jamaica to minister!

Boy, did that swell his head up - he came home talking like a Jamaican!!!

Let us NOT forget Wayne and his guitar!!!  He was the BADDEST Lead guitar player around………..let him tell it!!!  LoL…

In 2010, Wayne and Darnell moved their membership to Reaching Out Ministries, under leadership of Bishop Graham and Apostle Teresa Speaks.  There, Wayne served in many capacities, and was ordained a Deacon.  In 2014, he was led to join Mountain Top Church of God In Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Anthony Hunter.  There, he remained an active member until his health began to fail.

In 2021, Wayne felt the need to return to Maryland to be closer to his children, grandchildren, and family.   He found a loving church family, and joined Park Lane Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Ray C. Parsons.

To have known Wayne was to have “loved” Wayne - and he left an imprint on everyone’s heart that he encountered. Wayne had a contagious laugh that made you laugh!  His smile could light up a room, and he had a heart of gold. Wayne was a “people-person!”   In his free time, he enjoyed playing spades, playing pool, and social gatherings with friends and family. Wayne had a life well-lived!!!

Wayne leaves to cherish his fond memories… his wife, Darnell - 2 children, son Dwayne (Tiffany), daughter Jena; 2 granddaughters - Zenia Phillips and Tiffany Elbert;  4 grandsons - DevIn Welch, Dwayne Fletcher Jr., Travis Jr. and Landen Daniels; 2 great-grandchildren - Zion and Denia Phillips; 3 sisters - Angela Fletcher, Malinda (Joe) Wilcox, Twilla (Ernest) Brice; one brother - Stephen (Sabine) Fletcher; one aunt - Melva Hill; 2 sisters-in-love - Ellen Mason and May Fletcher; Brothers-in-love -  William “Billy” (Tyia) Mason; 12 Nieces; 8-nephews; a host of great nieces/ nephews,  cousins; special cousins/sisters - Landese Hubbard and Rosalind Wise; special cousin/brother- Fred Hubbard; best friend - Ronnie Sample; 2 goddaughters- Lynette Emory and Gia Moore; a special friend - Rose Pinkett; and many friends near and far.
